Most Common Area Code 267 Scams

Health Insurance & Prescription Scams

Robocalls from scammers impersonate WellCare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Express Scripts, and Cigna, using your real name to claim they have an "important update" about a prescription or pharmacy prior authorization. The automated voice asks you to confirm your name by saying "yes" and demands your full date of birth. They call from a 267 number but ask you to call back a different toll-free number. The caller ID may show "Pharm Prior Auth" even though the call is unsolicited. They use any personal information you give them to access your real health insurance accounts or steal your identity. Real health plans coordinate prior authorizations directly with your doctor's office, never through cold calls demanding personal information.

"Hello this is Your Health Plan Pharmacy Prior Authorization. We're calling with an important update about a prior authorization request. Please call us back at 844-607-5103"

Social Security Arrest Warrant Scam

An automated robocall message claims "fraudulent activity" has been linked to your Social Security Number and threatens that a warrant has been issued for your arrest. The recording says your SSN will be suspended unless you call them back immediately. The pre-recorded voice delivers serious legal threats about immediate arrest or blocking your Social Security Number. They use fear to trick you into calling back and revealing your SSN or other personal information to "resolve" the fake legal issue. The Social Security Administration never calls to threaten arrest or suspension. Official SSA communications arrive by U.S. Mail.

"Voicemail message was automated recording stating there had been fraudulent activity reported with my social security number and a warrant had been issued for my arrest."

Auto Warranty Expiration Scam

Callers claim your car's extended warranty is about to expire, often mentioning a vehicle you owned years ago like a RAV4 or Chrysler truck to seem legitimate. They reference vehicles you no longer own and use high-pressure tactics, with one caller claiming he would "just GPS my car and hung up." You may receive multiple calls daily from different numbers using the same script. They use any interest you show to sell you worthless or overpriced service contracts. These are third-party marketing companies using public records to find old vehicle information. Real manufacturers and dealerships don't cold-call about warranties.

"tried to ask about my RAV4. Traded that car in 6 years ago. then asked if I wanted a quote on any other car I had. Tried to tell them I'm on the do not call list. they hung up"

Callers claim a "pending civil complaint" is being filed against you in a local Pennsylvania county court, referencing a non-existent or very old payday loan debt. They may identify themselves as being from "Ellington and Associates" and threaten to locate you at your home or workplace unless you "settle" immediately over the phone. They refuse to provide their company name or mailing address and pressure you for immediate payment while refusing to mail official documents. They use any payment information you provide to steal money from your accounts. Real process servers don't call to warn you they're coming. They just show up.

"I'm reaching out on the pending civil complaint on the West Moreland County due to no contact... advise if you cannot make contact today December 21, 2021 the _?_?_?_?_?_ will move forward without your consent you have been notified…"

Unsolicited "Cash for Your House" Scam

Callers identifying themselves as "Larry" or "Adam" claim to be investors looking to buy your house for cash with a "quick no hassle cash sale." You receive out-of-the-blue offers for homes that aren't for sale. They have your name and address but cannot provide legitimate company information. They use high-pressure tactics to get you to sell your property for a low-ball offer well below market value. These high-volume cold calls target homeowners who may not know their property's true value. Legitimate cash offers don't come through unsolicited mass calling.

"I know this is out of the blue but my buddy Larry and I are looking to buy a house in your neighborhood and we were hoping to connect with you and see if you might entertain a quick no hassle cash sale for your property..."

Utility Company Impersonation Scam

Scammers pretend to be from PECO, People's Gas, or other local utilities, beginning by asking "Are you the person who pays the electric bill?" They pressure you to reveal your utility account number but can't provide specific details about your account that a real representative would have. They use your account number to switch your service provider without your consent, a practice called "slamming." Your utility company already has all your account information and never cold-calls asking you to provide it.

"Robocall started off with, 'Are you the person who pays the electric bill?' Either a phishing scam or a utility slamming scam. Next they will ask for your utility account number. I hung up before she got that far."

Car Wrap Advertising Scam

Group text messages offer to pay you $600 per week to put a sticker for an energy drink like "Kick start" on your vehicle. The messages arrive as part of a group text, sometimes at odd hours like 4:03 AM, promising large amounts of easy money. They ask for personal and bank information upfront and promise payment via a fraudulent "certified check." They use your bank details to drain your accounts or commit identity theft using your personal information. Legitimate car wrap companies are rare, have formal applications, and don't contact people through random group texts.

"GOT A CALL FROM 267 463-6676 @ 4:03 AM 6/25/21 GROUP TXT ABOUT MAKING $600. PER WEEK FOR DRIVING YOUR OWN VEHICLE WITH A WRAP AROUND STICKER ON IT WITH ADVERTISEMENT. WANTED ALL OF MY PERSONAL INFO & THE NAME OF MY BANK."
