Most Common Area Code 239 Scams

Social Security & Government Imposter Scams

Robocallers claim to be from the Social Security Administration or DEA and threaten that a warrant for your arrest will be issued for fraudulent and suspicious activity in the state of Texas. They demand you verify your Social Security number over the phone or press one to connect with an officer. Many use heavy accents while claiming to be U.S. federal agents. They use your personal information to open accounts and make fraudulent applications in your name. Real federal investigators do not call ahead to warn you about a warrant. They show up.

"Recorded message, stated from Social Security Office, must call 239-286-7834 (Fort Myers Florida) back, or 'warrant for my arrest will be issued'. I called the # back and a man with a heavy Asian accent answered."

FPL Power Shut-Off Scam

Scammers spoofing Florida Power & Light threaten to cut off your power in 30 minutes unless you make immediate payment over the phone via credit card or gift card. Caller ID shows "FL P&L CO" instead of the official company name, and callers become aggressive when questioned. They use your payment information to drain your accounts or sell your financial details. FPL provides multiple written notices before service disconnection. They never demand phone payments as the only way to avoid shut-off.

"Got a call from FPL to cut off my service in 30 minutes if i don't pay. I hung up. Total Scam."

Fake Subscription & Renewal Scams

Robocalls claim expensive subscriptions for Webroot, McAfee, or computer protection services will auto-renew for $200 or $299, or mention orders for iPad Pros about to process. They pressure you to call back immediately for a refund or cancellation from generic sources, not official company addresses. When you call, they steal your banking information during the fake refund process. Real companies list charges directly in your official account history. They do not use high-pressure robocalls demanding callbacks for refunds.

"VM message was a recorded message stating computer protection subscription will be renewed with automatic payment of $200 will be collected and to call this number for refund. Dont do it!!"

Extended Auto Warranty Robocalls

Rita from the Car Care Center and other automated voices claim your Car-Care Warranty is expiring soon, calling multiple times daily from different 239 numbers with urgent messages about your coverage. They pressure you to provide your vehicle's mileage and personal information early in calls. They sell you worthless service contracts, sometimes for cars you no longer own. These are third-party telemarketers, not your manufacturer or dealership. Your actual warranty information is in your vehicle paperwork.

"'Hello, Mary, my name is Rita. I'm with the Car Care Center.' Told her I was not interested; she kept talking. I hung up. Have now blocked number."

Fake Police & Firefighter Donation Scams

Callers impersonating the Police Dept benevolent association or Gulfcoast Benevolent Police Association pressure you for $25, $35, or $50 donations over the phone for families of fallen officers. They spoof caller ID to show Police Dept, become aggressive when questioned, hang up when you ask to call back, or transfer you to someone demanding credit card details after promising to mail information. They use your donation money for their own profit instead of helping police families. Legitimate police charities do not use aggressive cold-calling for immediate credit card payments.

"Claimed to be police Dept benevolent association seeking donations for families of fallen officers. Wanted donation of 25, 35, or 50 over the phone."

Medicare & Health Insurance Scams

Callers like Brenda claim to be Medicare Advisors with the SSA calling on recorded lines about Disability Advisory programs, asking "Can you hear me?" before hanging up, or offering free medical alert systems and special insurance plans from companies like First Family Insurance that call relentlessly for years. They record your voice saying yes to authorize fake charges or use your Medicare number to bill fraudulent services. Contact Medicare directly at 1-800-MEDICARE if you have coverage questions. Government Medicare and SSA employees never call to sell products or request personal information unless you requested the call first.

"Said her Name was BRENDA --A medicare Advisor with the SSA...quickly said to call 1-866-200-0152 if disconnected. Was immediately disconnected...researched 866#---SSA SCAM NUMBER ....dont call or provide ANY info."

Aggressive Real Estate & Property Scams

Real estate investors like robocaller Kevin call repeatedly from different numbers knowing your name and address, promising quick cash offers for your property sight unseen, then becoming pushy or rude when you decline their offers. They use your property information to target you for other scams or identity theft schemes. Your property information is public record, which explains how they get your details. You have no obligation to speak with aggressive cold callers about your property.

"Robocall from 'Kevin' a real estate investor looking to buy homes in my area. I don't have a home. I rent. This calls has come from numerous numbers that all get blocked. I have YEARS of this robocall jerk calling my phone."

Google Business Listing & Merchant Scams

Automated voices claiming your Google business listing is not verified press you to talk to specialists, while callers like Jessica Parisi or Troy Leighton ask for business owners about merchant services issues or wholesale conversion leaks, remaining vague about their companies while insisting on speaking with owners about urgent risk assessments. They switch your credit card processors to ones that charge higher fees and give them kickbacks. Google does not use robocalls to verify business listings. Your actual merchant services provider identifies themselves clearly without vague threats.

"Troy Leighton called and asked for owner by name. He said the call was about wholesale conversion leak. I ask him what that is, he said she would know. I asked how would she know, and he claimed they already spoke on the number he called. I told him I am the only one that answers this number and he was a crock of sh!t! He hung up on me."
