Most Common Area Code 769 Scams

Extended Auto Warranty Robocalls

Robocalls from "Linda from dealer processing" are targeting residents in the 769 area code, claiming they need to renew a "car maintenance policy." These calls go to people who never had such a policy in the first place. They use your car details to sell you overpriced warranties with poor coverage that legitimate dealers would never offer. If you challenge them or call them scammers, the callers turn hostile and may call back with nasty messages.

"They are calling about your car warranty. I made the mistake telling him was a scammer and should be ashamed and I hung up and he called back and I did not answer but he left a nasty message.."

Fake Student Loan Forgiveness Calls

Scammers call Mississippians claiming that "federal laws had changed regarding student loans" and offer to help set up payments to comply with new rules. These calls frequently go to people who have no student loans at all. They use any personal or financial information you give them to steal your identity or sign you up for expensive loan consolidation services you don't need. The Department of Education communicates through official channels, never through unsolicited phone calls demanding immediate action.

"Caller stated federal laws had changed regarding student loans and he could help me set up my payments to comply with the new rules. I have no student loans."

Callers claim they are delivering legal documents for a "pending civil lawsuit," often about a payday loan, and threaten to contact your "HR or payroll department on file" after "third failed attempts." If you question them, they transfer you to another person who claims to be from "the office that filed the claim" and uses intimidation tactics to pressure you. They use any employment information you confirm to harass you at work or steal your identity. Real process servers do not call ahead to warn you or threaten to contact your employer. They show up.

"this message is in regards to a complaint notice to your attention... after the third failed attempts I'm required to direct further attempts to your HR or payroll department on file."

Medicare "Recent Changes" & Free Brace Scams

Callers like "Randy from the Medicare Help Center" target seniors claiming they need to discuss "recent changes" to Medicare plans, and they try very hard to get victims to say the word "yes," likely for a voice signature. Other calls offer a "free" knee or back brace and ask for your Medicare number. They use your Medicare number to bill the government for expensive medical equipment you never receive or to steal your identity for insurance fraud. Medicare will never call you to offer free medical equipment.

"Randy called from the Medicare Help Center to advise me of recent changes. Tried very hard to get me to say 'yes'. Informed him that he was the 9th caller and to stop, remove my number and this is harassment. He hung up on ME!"

Social Security Arrest Warrant Scam

Callers from the "so so security office" threaten you with a "warrant for your arrest" and demand you provide the last four digits of your Social Security number to stop the arrest. They use any part of your Social Security number you give them to steal your identity or access your benefits. The Social Security Administration will never call you to threaten arrest. Law enforcement agencies do not call people to warn them about warrants.

"I'm Registered with the do not call registry and constantly receiving phone calls Saying they are from the so so security office saying if I do not call and give the last four numbers of my social security number there would be a warrant for my arrest."
