Most Common Area Code 662 Scams

Harassment & Threatening Calls

Callers using numbers like (662) 255-3743 or showing "No Caller ID" are targeting Mississippi residents with harassment campaigns. They use obscene language, make direct threats, call over 60 times within a half-hour, and may know your name, address, and family members' names, often calling at all hours of the night. They use your personal information to intimidate and frighten you into staying on the line or calling them back. Real law enforcement does not communicate through anonymous harassment calls.

"my friend has been getting calls from this number saying they know who she is and starts threatening her"

Fake Debt Collection Threats

Scammers calling from firms like "Capital Reassurance" or "Phoenix Financial" falsely claim a "mediation notice" or legal complaint has been filed against you and threaten that you will be served with court documents at your home or work if you don't immediately provide a bank account number to settle the debt. They use your bank account information to steal money directly from your account. Real debt collectors must provide written validation notices by mail, they cannot legally threaten you with arrest for civil debt.

"They said they would be serving me with court documents at my home or my place of employment within the next 5 to 10 days if I didn't make an arrangement to pay now and I had to give them my bank account number..."

Social Security Number Suspension Scam

A prerecorded message claims your Social Security Number has been compromised or "deleted" due to criminal activity, creates urgency by threatening termination of benefits, and instructs you to "press 1" to speak with an agent about your SSN. They use any personal information you provide to steal your identity and open accounts in your name. Your Social Security Number cannot be suspended, deleted, or canceled.

"It is a prerecorded message. It states that my social security number has been deleted due because it was connected to some sort of scam That I no longer have a social security number. To push 1."

Fake Amazon Purchase Verification

Scammers pretending to be from Amazon security call to "verify" a large, fake purchase on your account, such as a "$421 laptop," with the caller sometimes using fake names like "David" and employee number "42136," then ask you to visit a fraudulent website they provide. They use the login credentials you enter on their fake website to access your real Amazon account and make unauthorized purchases. Amazon will never call you about orders or ask for payment information over the phone.

"A female called and asked if I was charging a 421 laptop from Amazon. They were with Amazon and trying to verify. If no then the security person would come on phone. a man going by David 42136 asked me about some charges..."

Phony Arrest Warrant Scam

Callers claim you have a warrant for your arrest due to supposed issues with the IRS or another government body and pressure you into immediately "verifying" your full Social Security Number, date of birth, and address over the phone to make the warrant "go away." They use your personal information to steal your identity and commit fraud in your name. Real officers do not call first, they show up.

"NUMBER CAME IN THROUGH AND SAID THAT I HAVE A WARRANT OUT FOR MY ARREST AND THAT I NEED TO VERIFY MY SSN DOB AND ADDRESS TO HAVE THIS WARRANT CLEARED."

Medicare Information Phishing

Scammers calling sometimes 10-15 times a day pretend to be from "Northstar Health" or a "Medicare Help Center," offer free medical supplies like a back brace, claim to be "working with Medicare" but are not from the government, and insist they need your Medicare number over the phone. They use your Medicare number to bill the government for medical equipment you never receive or medical services you never had. Medical equipment requires a prescription from your doctor, it cannot be given away for free over the phone.

"called me 14 times trying to send me a back brace want my medicare no."
