About our data

ThisNumber is a phone number lookup service that shows information about phone numbers, not about who owns them. Our data comes only from public sources:

  • Public numbering plan data, which describes blocks of phone numbers (area codes and prefixes), such as the country, carrier, and region where they were assigned.
  • FTC Do Not Call complaint data, which the U.S. Federal Trade Commission publishes as a federal government record. It lists phone numbers that consumers have reported for unwanted calls.

What we show

  • Country and carrier, from public numbering plan data for the area code and prefix, not the individual number.
  • General region or city, based on where the area code and prefix were originally assigned, not where the person using the number is.
  • Spam and robocall reports (US numbers only), from complaints about the exact number in FTC Do Not Call data.

Important

  • Carrier and location may be out of date. Numbers can be moved to another carrier or used anywhere, so this information may not match the number's current owner.
  • A report is not proof of wrongdoing. Scammers often fake (spoof) caller ID using real people's numbers. A number with reports may belong to someone who never made those calls.

What we don't show

Names, addresses, emails, birth dates, relatives, or anything else that identifies who owns a number. We don't collect this information.
