On July 4, 2007, 778 expanded to become an overlay for the entire province. This area also includes overlay codes 236 (introduced June 1, 2013), 672 (activated May 4, 2019), and 257 (to be introduced May 24, 2025). These codes all work together in the same geographic region, alongside the original area codes 604 and 250. The implementation of 778 made ten-digit dialing mandatory across the Lower Mainland, and as of June 23, 2008, ten-digit dialing became mandatory across all of British Columbia, with seven-digit dialing ceasing to function after September 12, 2008.
