Yes. Montana does not restrict the personal use of reverse phone lookup services. The state's privacy law has been in effect since October 1, 2024, giving residents rights to opt out of and delete their data from lookup databases. The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) prohibits using lookup results for employment, tenant, or credit decisions in every state. Montana's MT-CDPA provides additional state-level protections.
The Montana Consumer Data Privacy Act (MT-CDPA, Mont. Code Ann. § 30-14-3001 et seq., enacted SB 351, 2023) took effect October 1, 2024 and was amended in 2025. Note the correct abbreviation is MT-CDPA - both Montana's and Minnesota's laws were previously misabbreviated as "MCDPA" in some sources. Montana residents can opt out of personal data sales and targeted advertising, and have rights to access, correct, delete, and port their data within a 45-day response window. Nonprofits are generally exempt.
Under the Montana Consumer Data Privacy Act (MCDPA), you can opt out of the sale of your personal details and request their deletion. Visit each reverse lookup site and use their opt-out form to submit a request.
A phone number linked to a business name does not always mean the call is genuine. According to U.S. Census data, there are over 42,015 business establishments in Montana. To confirm a specific company exists, search the Montana Business Entity Search, the state’s official business entity registry.
Not inherently, but Montana's mix matters. The state has 1.2 million mobile subscriptions and only 152,000 VoIP lines, which means caller ID is more reliable here than in states with heavy VoIP adoption. Landlines still account for 104,000 subscriptions, a higher proportion than most states.
